Mike Lawrence and Fred Gitelman are delighted to present the CD ROM software, CONVENTIONS

CONVENTIONS - And The Judgment Needed To Use Them

WE ARE SHIPPING ON DECEMBER 27, TWO DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS!

WHAT YOU WILL FIND IN CONVENTIONS

CONVENTIONS covers many areas of bidding. It shows various treatments and allows you to choose which ones you prefer. For instance, how should you play a three club or three diamond response to one notrump? Should it show both minors, should it be sign-off, should it be invitational, or should it be forcing? Most of the conventions in this software can be added to your system, whether it be a standard system, a weak notrump system, or a forcing club system.

HOW DOES IT WORK? - BID HUNDREDS OF INTERACTIVE HANDS WITH THE COMPUTER

The main emphasis of CONVENTIONS is to give you insights plus a good look at many conventions found on the typical ACBL convention card. Following a discussion of a convention will be a number of hands that you can bid interactively with the computer. At every crucial stage of the auction, you are given two to five bids to choose from. You will see what makes a bid right and what makes it inferior or wrong.

IN COMPETITION

In many cases, a convention will encounter competitive bidding. For conventions that are likely to involve competitive auctions, a number of hands are included to show you how to handle the opponents' bidding.

JUDGMENT

Judgment is as important as any convention. If you try to follow rules by rote, you will find that the rules are often inadequate. Judgment plays a major role in the use of conventions. In CONVENTIONS, there are many guidelines that go beyond rules and many example hands which dwell on this topic.

WHAT CONVENTIONS ARE COVERED IN THIS SOFTWARE?

The list that follows included the major topics but most of the headings include variations which are too numerous to mention. Trust me that the topic headings do not do justice to everything that you will find here.
