A
typical recipient of this award will present a winning combination
of design, programming and service, creating a web site of interest
and purpose for bridge players online. The site should be pleasing
to look at, easy to use and display attention to detail and follow-through.
This
award will be presented whenever such a site is found!

A lot of "portal" and link services offer awards to web sites that represent
the best in their genre. To date there is no such award specifically for
Bridge Sites - so I'm going to start one now! If you wish to submit a
site, simply email Great Bridge Links.
GREAT BRIDGE SITE WINNER
championshipbridge.com
June 2000 - The Second ever winner of the GBL Great Bridge Site Award
is ChampionshipBridge.Com
This site features Streaming TV broadcasts and vugraphs from major bridge
events. This is a fantastic site and a great service to bridge players
around the world. While I work away at my computer I am able to listen
to live commentary from the Women's International Team Trials, play by
play, informational bits, or humourous anecdotes. Or, if I wish, I can
watch interviews with the winners from the recent Cavendish or follow
the Vanderbilt play on vugraph.
Championshipbridge.com brings the excitement and intrigue of high level
bridge to the desktop of every bridge player. This kind of exposure for
our game is enormous and can only serve to raise the profile of bridge
significantly. At the same time, it provides entertainment and a sense
of belonging to all the players unable to actually attend the featured
events.
Congratulations Championshipbridge.com and ibtv.net
for a great job.
playBridge.com
May 2000 - The First Winner of the GBL Great Bridge Site Award is playBridge.com.
PLAYBRIDGE.COM PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT FREE SERVICE
The playBridge.com Hand Generator
by Richard Podkowik is a bridge training and education tool. Use
one of three available generator screens and playBridge will shuffle and
deal for you. Use it to practice bidding with your partner, to visualize
hands, to resolve what-if situations or to produce pre-filled duplicate
forms.
This is a fantastic site! Users are able to construct the hand parameters
for a specific bidding sequence and bid bid bid to their hearts content.
One can choose to control one hand, or more. The interface is very neat
and easy easy easy. Read through the brief FAQ before you start. ALSO
- and all this is completely free of charge remember - you are able to
print out the hands in a variety of formats including one that would suffice
for a Duplicate game.
The formats available are described on the site as follows:
List format - All four hands including deal number, dealer and
vulnerability info. There are four output formats available for Lists:1-column
(standard), 2-column, 3-column (may not look right on all browsers) or
compact (not as readable as the other three, but saves space).
Bidding Practice format - Consists of two sections, all hands for
you and all hands for your partner. As a default setting it also includes
all hands in List, 3-columns format.
Forms for Duplicate - Each deal is placed inside a standard Traveling
Score Sheet - ready to play. You may combine this option with any of previous
two.
playBridge.com also has a good
bridge book page which allows you to browse, read reviews, and order (from
Amazon Books).
In all this is a fine example of a bridge web site. Good Job playBridge!
