GRAND LIFE MASTER DIES : Mark
Molson, Grand Life Master and a leading player in North
America, died Thursday at a Hollywood FL hospital during
a heart operation. He was 56. Formerly of Montreal, Molson
lived in Florida with his wife, Janice Seamon-Molson.
In addition to numerous North American championships,
Molson had a silver medal in the Bermuda Bowl in 1995
playing for Canada and had nearly 20,000 masterpoints.
Before moving to Florida Mark Molson was a regular participant
in the Canadian National Team Championship (CNTC).
Mark was on team that won the CNTC in 1983, 1985, 1987,
1989, 1991, 1994 and 1995. In 1995 Mark was
on the Canadian team that won the Silver medal at the
Bermuda Bowl. Mark also won the Richmond
Trophy race five times: 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1984.

take place on Saturday, February 25th, with the continuing

The 2005 World Bridge Championships,

The Alan Truscott Memorial Award for Special
Achievement - Bill Bailey (USA) for Deep Finesse
IBPA has announced a new award this year, to be awarded
periodically to a person who has made a significant contribution
to bridge and bridge journalists. The first such award,
named after our ex-President and ex-Chairman Alan Truscott,
who died in September, goes to Bill Bailey for Deep Finesse,
an invaluable tool for bridge writers and analysts everywhere.
The 2005 IBPA Honour Member of the Year - George
Rosenkranz (Mexico) IBPA has announced that George
Rosenkranz of Mexico has been named the Honour Member
for 2005. George has been a long-time supporter of the
IBPA and its awards programme.
Wbridge5 defeats Jack for
the world computer-bridge title. ACBL
IX World Computer-Bridge Championship. Estoril, Portugal
October 25 - 30, 2005. Wbridge5 won this year's championship
with a final 64-board KO score of 136-67, unseating the

Goodbye Alan : Alan Truscott Dies at 80. Alan
whose lifelong profession grew out of the card game he
learned as a British schoolboy in an air-raid shelter
during the London blitz, died September 4 at his summer
home in the Adirondack. The cause was cancer, said his
stepdaughter Katherine Hayden Thurston. Read

European Open Bridge Championships, Tenerife, 27th June
2005 - Following a lengthy hearing of the Championships'
Appeals Committee, yesterday evening, the pair of M. Lanzarotti
and A. Buratti, was disqualified from the teams event.

MIND SPORTS ASSOCIATION FORMED
Bridge, Chess, Draughts and Go joined forces and formed
the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA), under
the aegis of the General Association of International
Sports Federations (GAISF). The aim of IMSA is to work
together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC)
for the organization of the Intellympiads, the Olympic
Games of the mind sports, in the Olympic sites and following
the Winter or Summer Games. José Damiani, President
of the WBF, was elected the first President of IMSA. Click
