WINS NEC CUP - In one of the most exciting
finishes this event has ever seen, the defending team from
England (Brian Senior, Brian Callaghan, Pablo Lambardi and
John Armstrong) staged a remarkable comeback (they were
down by as many as 50 IMPs late in the third quarter) to
defeat the pre-tournament favorites, the team from Poland
(Krzysztof Martens, Marcin Lesnievski, Michal Kwiecien,
Jacek Pszczola, Witold Wasak and npc Radoslaw Kielbasinski),
by .5 IMP—that’s right, .5 IMP–to take
the 2003 NEC Cup. Click

LTPB
Translation Project - Fred Gitelman, under commission
from the ACBL, developed highly successful instructional
software for novices, called "Learn to Play Bridge"
(LTPB). This program, available at no cost from the ACBL
has been downloaded over 250,000 times. With Fred's cooperation,
the JCBL is now preparing a Japanese translation. Bob Geller
is the project coordinator and Setsuko Ogihara is the translator.
The final Japanese version is tentatively scheduled for
release in June 2003. A developmental version was tested
Thursday by attendees of the JCBL Bridge classes being held
at the tournament site, with highly positive results.

GOODBYE
FROM BRIDGEMART
www.Bridgemart.com is no longer available online. The site,
which featured a streamline database and excellent user
interface attempted to become the bridge services
destination for the web today. Unfortunately, the model
was flawed and in the end the project has been shelved.
Proof once again that machines are not ready to take over
the world - people are still needed to run them. The web
pages were capably designed by a company, www.Europeum.net,
which also designed the www.BridgeManitoba.org.
This company is still in business.
