EUROPEAN MIXED CHAMPIONSHIPS
Oostende,
Belgium 16th - 22nd March 2002
The new European Bridge Mixed Champions are Hedwig Van Glabbeek
and Willem jan Maas of The Netherlands. The Mixed Teams Champion
is Team Lavazza, predominantly Italian with a dash of Austrian
that is crowned as the new European Bridge Mixed Team Champions.

WILLIAM
S. ROOT
(1923-2002) Bill Root, who won major bridge championships
over a five-decade career, died March 18 at Boca Community
Hospital in Boca Raton FL. He was 78. Root, considered by
many to be the foremost teacher of bridge, estimated that
he taught tens of thousands during a 42-year career. His bridge
cruises were legendary. Root won 13 North American championships
and was second in the 1967 Bermuda Bowl and the 1968 World
Team Olympiad. He was elected to the Bridge Hall of Fame in
1997.

Eric Kokish named ACBL Honorary Member - The
honour, for long and meritorious service to the ACBL,
was accorded Kokish by the ACBL Board of Directors during
their meetings in Las Vegas in November. Kokish, 54, is
a native of Montreal who now lives in Toronto. Eric is
widely known for his talents as bridge editor, columnist,
analyst, commentator, journalist, teacher, coach, player
and tireless volunteer. Congratulations Eric, a well deserved
recognition. Click
